Review: Doctor Who 8.4 – “Listen”

Moffat had once said his approach to Doctor Who after taking over would be “dark fairy tales”. It was apparent early on with the Eleventh Doctor (“The Beast Below”, “The Vampires of Venice”) but got drowned out with the ongoing Silence arc. After establishing the Twelfth Doctor and the season’s mystery, Moffat takes us back to a story that immediately feels like one of his classic stories.

Review: Doctor Who 8.3, “Robot of Sherwood”

Last week we had “Doctor Who meets The Fantastic Voyage”, and now we have “The Doctor meets Robin Hood”. While on the surface it may look like showrunner Steven Moffat was throwing darts at a board with plot ideas when mapping out the eighth series of the show, Mark Gatiss deftly turns in a witty script that proves to be one of the best Who stories of the past few years.

Review: Doctor Who 8.2 – “Into the Dalek”

“Into the Dalek” gives us our first full look at the new Doctor without the trappings of regeneration shenanigans and Clara’s meta-doubt about him. We’re also given a twist on the Dalek story (which, at this point, it really needs, since there’s only so many ways the Daleks can lose, right?), as well as the Doctor’s continued thematic return to a more alien state.
